Conferences & Teaching

Conferences

The Centre regularly organizes symposia and seminars regarding current art law topics. Internationally renowned academics and specialists of the art world participate. By inviting specialists from different backgrounds, the Centre achieves its goal of providing a fruitful and interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge through the legal and artistic experiences of both the speakers and the audience. To date, more then twenty symposia have been organized by the Centre.

Teaching

A regular course in art law is now given at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva by Marc-André Renold, one of the Centre's Directors. The Law Faculty of the University of Geneva and the Art-Law Centre have entered into a co-operation agreement; the Leenaards Foundation in Lausanne has made this innovation financially possible.
The Centre's Directors also regularly participate in post-graduate teaching and research projects in Switzerland and abroad.

Publications and Research

The Centre is the editor of a series of works entitled the "Studies in Art Law", which has come to be used and read as a reference series. The collection includes the papers given at symposia organized by the Centre, as well as books written by specialists. To date, fifteen volumes have been published in the series.

The Centre also publishes on a regular basis the "Art-Law Centre News", a newsletter presenting the latest developments in the world of art law.

The Centre is often requested by public and private entities to render legal opinions relating to specific issues of interest.

Documentation centre

The Art-Law Centre has put together a documentation centre in the form of a specialized library containing books and documents relating to art law. This library comprises reference works (in international, comparative and domestic law), specialised periodicals and numerous other documents relevant to the subject. To facilitate the access to and usage of the library, a database has been created which allows quick and efficient research in the entire field of art law, thanks notably to an index system using key words.

The Centre also welcomes interns, both Swiss and international, who wish to participate in research projects in art and cultural property law.
