Paul is the founder of Borro. Prior to this Paul founded and was the MD of Movota, a provider of mobile solutions to leading media companies, which he sold to Bertelsmann in 2005. In addition to this, Paul has extensive senior operations, supply chain, marketing, & strategy experience in the Retail and IT sectors from his time working with DSG International and RM plc. Paul also holds an MBA from IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.

David Arendt

David Arendt is the Managing Director of Natural Le Coultre Luxembourg S.A. whose corporate purpose is to build, own, lease and manage a state of the art, high-end, secure facility for the storage of fine art and other valuables in a tax friendly environment under customs supervision. The Luxembourg Freeport is expected to become operational in September 2014. The Natural Le Coultre Group is a forwarder specialized in the handling and transportation of fine art world wide. The group also owns and operates the Singapore Freeport and is a co-owner and an operator of the Geneva Freeports.

Prior to joining NLC, David Arendt was the Executive Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer of Cargolux Airlines International S.A., the Luxembourg-based all cargo air-carrier, and a member of its Executive Committee from October 1998 to December 2011.

Prior to joining Cargolux in October 1998, David Arendt was a member of the Management team of Banque Générale du Luxembourg S.A., where he exercised various functions, including head of corporate finance.Prior to joining Cargolux in October 1998, David Arendt was a member of the Management team of Banque Générale du Luxembourg S.A., where he exercised various functions, including head of corporate finance.

Prior to joining Banque Générale du Luxembourg S.A. in October 1994, David Arendt was Vice President at Merrill Lynch, where he worked in the New York and London-based corporate finance teams of the investment bank.

David Arendt is a lawyer by education. He holds LLM's from King's College, London University and New York University School of Law. He practiced law for several years with the Luxembourg law firm of Arendt & Medernach and the New York law firms of Shearman & Sterling and Debevoise & Plimpton. David Arendt was named CFO of the Year 2009 by CFO World.

Anne Laure Bandle

Anne Laure Bandle is a director of the Art Law Foundation. Established in Geneva for more than 20 years, the Art-Law Foundation aims to promote and coordinate the work and research in the field of art law. In particular, it supports the research and teaching activities of the Art-Law Centre. Moreover, the Art-Law Foundation and Art-Law Centre regularly collaborate, such as on the organisation of conferences and workshops. Currently, the Art-Law Foundation has over 500 active members and supporters from the legal and academic community, museums, auction houses, galleries, banks, logistics, and insurances.

Anne Laure Bandle is a teaching and research assistant at the Art-Law Centre, University of Geneva, and a guest teacher at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Under the supervision of Professor Marc-André Renold (Director of the Art-Law Centre) and Professor Tatiana Flessas (LSE), Anne Laure Bandle is currently completing a PhD on the sale of sleepers at auction.

Stefanie Berloffa-Spadafora

Stefanie Berloffa-Spadafora started her career in London, working for Sotheby’s. After an initial experience in Private Sales within the Old Master Paintings Department, she widened her knowledge and expertise whilst practicing at Sotheby’s Legal Department. Stefanie was involved in various high value cross-border transactions, including the acquisition of The Wine of Saint Martin’s Day by Pieter Bruegel the Elder by the Prado Museum. She was responsible for drafting the contractual agreements at the 2011 Selling Exhibition “Material Worlds” at Sudeley Castle, England. She has recently consulted on contracts for another renowned Selling Exhibition, Glasstress 2013, collateral event of the Venice Biennale.

Stefanie holds a deep knowledge of all operational aspects required when dealing with Fine Arts. Her specialty is Art Law; she negotiates and drafts all range of contracts related to the Arts. Stefanie advices also on Droite de suite, Export Licences, Fine Art Shipping and Storage, Insurance and Taxes.

Stefanie holds a Law Degree from both Bocconi University, Milan (Italy) and Catholic University of Ávila (Spain). She is a Spanish Qualified Lawyer and a European Registered Lawyer in the UK.

Alessandro Belluzzo

Qualified as a Trust Estate Pratictioner (“TEP”) in the United Kingdom, with a bachelor’s degrees in economics and case law from Bocconi University, Alessandro Belluzzo is an equity partner of Belluzzo&Partners LLP. Besides his professional activity, he has lectured at Bocconi University in Milan and is a frequent presenter at specialist conferences in England and throughout the world. He deals predominantly with estate planning, most notably with regard to international taxation and family businesses.

Anna M. Dempster

Anna M. Dempster is Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Art Business at Sotheby's Institute of Art, London where she leads the Art Business, Finance and Management Unit as well as teaching strategic management, entrepreneurship and research methods, all specially tailored for the art world.

She was previously Director of Research at the Creative Industries Observatory, University of the Arts London and Founding Director of the MSc/MA in Creative Industries at Birkbeck College, University of London. She has research and teaching experience in leading academic institutions including at the University of Cambridge, London Business School and Rotterdam School of Management and she regularly consults for industry and government.

She holds a BA and M.Phil in History from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD in Management Studies from the Judge Business School in Cambridge, UK. Her current research interests focus on the creative industries and visual arts and specifically Risk and Uncertainty in the Art World - with a book of this title published in 2014.

Sebastian Fahey

Sebastian Fahey joined Sotheby’s in 2004 after having graduated from the London School of Economics and is currently the Director of Sotheby’s Financial Services with responsibility for Europe and Asia. Sebastian has over a decade of experience in structuring loans and finding tailored art-related financing solutions. By offering customised loans both for property consigned for sale and term loans secured against the value of a collection, Sebastian helps Sotheby’s global clients put their art collections and other valuable assets to work. His clients, who include major collectors, art dealers, corporations, trusts and estates, benefit from Sotheby’s in-depth knowledge of the international art market, impeccable client service and custom made financing arrangements.

Melanie Gerlis

Melanie Gerlis became the Art Market editor of The Art Newspaper in 2007, and has reported on auctions, art fairs and market news globally since then. She previously worked for ten years at RLM Finsbury, a strategic communications and investor relations firm, advising investment banks, hedge funds and other financial services clients. She has a BA in English Literature from Cambridge University and an MA in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London. Her book, ‘Art as an Investment? A Survey of Comparative Assets’, was published by Lund Humphries in January 2014.

Amanda Gray

Amanda is an Associate in Mishcon Private, specialising in Art Law. She began her career in the media industry before studying law and qualifying as a solicitor, first working in the field of criminal defence and then turning her attention to civil law, the focus of her practice being primarily in the world of art and antiques.

With the Head of the Art Law Group, Karen Sanig, Amanda works on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters for galleries, auction houses, artists, collectors, foundations, banks and other public and private institutions - such cases often centre around disputes concerning ownership, provenance, attribution and probate. Clients value Amanda’s ability to provide advice and support in often difficult circumstances as well as provide imaginative solutions to their complex and diverse issues.

Among other matters, Amanda is currently advising on the discovery of a lost masterwork found in a parish church. She also assisted in the delicate and politically sensitive negotiations that led to the return of the antiquity, the Head of Amenhotep III to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Philip Hoffman

Philip Hoffman is Founder and CEO of The Fine Art Fund Group, one of the earliest entities of its kind, and probably the best known. Before founding the Group in 2001, Philip spent 12 years as a Director of Christie’s, becoming the youngest member of Christie’s International Management Board and eventually serving as the company’s Deputy CEO for Europe. Philip began his career as an accountant at KPMG.

Now, with a team of over 40 professionals including asset managers, marketing analysts, art experts, art dealers, auction house managers and academics based in London, Geneva and Dubai, The Group invests in rare art for investment purposes and currently advises some of the largest art funds in the world. As well as advising on the funds, the Group has provided Art Advisory services to major banks in Switzerland, the UAE and Greece through its subsidiary Fine Art Investment & Research Limited, which assists clients in all aspects of collecting and investing in premium quality art works.

The Fine Art Fund was the first fund of its type to invest in art as an asset class worldwide. Since the launch of the first fund, Philip has overseen the launch of five subsequent funds and other similar ventures. The Group now advises on over $350mn of assets.

Tim Hunter

Tim Hunter is a fine art specialist with over twenty years of experience in the commercial art world. After graduating with First Class Honours and completing a DPhil at the University of Oxford he joined Christie’s Auction House in 1993, where he worked as a Director in the Impressionist & Modern Art Department, before being appointed Head of the 19th Century European Art, and later as a Senior Director in the Old Master & British Picture Department. He left Christie’s in 2009, after sixteen years, to become a Director at Gurr Johns Ltd, one of the U.K.’s leading art advisory and valuation firms. He frequently lectures around the world and has published articles on a wide range of art historical subjects. He regularly sits on the Reviewing Committee for the Export of Works of Art, and acts as an adviser to several National Museums and the Arts Council. In 2014 he was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He joined Falcon Fine Art (a division of Falcon Group) in 2014, bringing his extensive knowledge of the art world to provide a range of tailor-made financial solutions to art collectors seeking to maximise and enhance their collections.

Marco Mercanti

Marco Mercanti started his professional career as an international art lawyer. Following his experience in the legal and compliance departments of Sotheby’s in London, he was invited to establish the art law department of Crowe Horwath International.
He founded Oblyon in January 2012. His clients include high net worth collectors, commercial art galleries, art dealers, auctioneers, museums, artists, private banks and art investment funds.

Marco has an Italian law degree (University of Bologna) and a Master in international business law (ESADE). He is qualified to practice law in Italy and in Spain. Marco completed a PhD on the international art trade at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Marco has lectured on art law at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and at ESADE business school.

Alain Mestat

Alain Mestat is Managing Partner of PassionProtect. Alain has close to 25 years of experience within the wealth management industry. For 13 years he was a Director with the Edmond de Rothschild Group. Prior to this Alain was Founder and Managing Director of Advena Management, one of the first multi family offices in the US exclusively catering for the US needs of GCC families. Alain has extensive experience in the field of Art & Finance, having set up in 2001 the Ariane de Rothschild Prize, a contemporary art competition promoting the talents of new emerging European artists as well as initiating the Rothschild Art Advisory services. While studying in the US, Alain set up Mestat Works of Art, an Art consultancy boutique promoting young European artists. Alain has a Bachelor and a Masters from Brandeis University in International Economic and Finance. Alain is currently attending INSEAD.

William Pearlstein

William Pearlstein is a partner in Pearlstein & McCullough LLP, a New York based art-law boutique firm that represents leading private collectors and dealers in transactions, disputes and regulatory matters involving fine art and antiquities. William Pearlstein graduated from Yale College in 1979 and Northwestern Law School in 1984. He is the director of the American Committee for Cultural Policy and Member of the Art Law Committee of the New York Bar Association. William Pearlstein’s most recent publication appears in Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal, Volume 32, Issue 2 (2014), “White Paper: A Proposal to Reform U.S. Law and Policy Relating to the International Antiquities Trade”.

Marc-André Renold

Marc-André Renold, Dr. iur., LL.M., studied at the Universities of Geneva and Basel in Switzerland and at Yale University in the USA. He is Professor of art and cultural heritage law at the University of Geneva and the Director of its Art-Law Centre. As of March 2012 he is the holder of the UNESCO Chair in the international protection of cultural heritage at the University of Geneva.
He is also Attorney-at-law, Member of the Geneva Bar and is of counsel to a major Swiss- German law firm; his areas of practice are among others art and cultural heritage law, intellectual property and public and private international law.

Marc-André Renold has been Visiting Professor at the Faculté Jean Monnet of the University of Paris Sud (2006-2007) and at the University of Lausanne (2008-2009). He has also lectured at the Hague Academy of International Law (Spring 2008) and the Institute for Mediterranean Heritage in Slovenia (summers of 2009 and 2010). He has been guest lecturer at the University Jean Moulin in Lyon, the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, as well as the Duke-Geneva Institute in Transnational Law.

He is the author or co-author of several publications in the field of international and comparative art and cultural heritage law and has been, since its inception, an editor of the “Studies in Art Law” series (25 volumes published to date). He is the co-editor (with Peter Mosimann and Andrea Raschèr) and co-author of Culture, Art and Law: Swiss and International Law (2009), the leading Swiss handbook written in German on the law of art and culture.
Marc-André Renold is married and the father of three children.

Karen Sanig is a Partner and Head of Art Law at Mishcon de Reya. She founded Art Law at the firm in 1995. Karen is a leading individual in the sphere of Art and Cultural property Law and a pioneer in art law. Karen represents a vast array of interesting clients including artists, collectors, museums, galleries, governments, and dealers. She advises on a wide range of art-related legal issues, from dispute to art ownership and authenticity, restitution of cultural heritage property, the setting up of art investment vehicles, or the sale and purchase of artworks.

Her vast experience of the eccentricities of the art market has provided her with a unique viewpoint from which to advise on the due diligence required in art transactions. Karen lectures frequently on art law related topics and is often quoted in the media. She is honorary legal counsel for the London Jewish Museum of Art; she sits on the advisory panel for the London Business School Annual Art Investment Conference and on the board of The Hermitage Museum Foundation Israel. She is also a guest lecturer on the Christie's Art Business Course.

Li Jun Xian

Li Jun Xian is a Partner at Emigrant Bank Fine Art Finance, the art and rare stringed instrument financing subsidiary of Emigrant Bank (Member FDIC, founded 1850). She regularly advises and structures art loans for a range of art and instrument collectors, art gallery owners, and institutions who are seeking liquidity from their art and instrument assets, and counsels the financial advisors, accountants, lawyers and other professionals on whom they rely. Prior to joining Emigrant Bank Fine Art in 2007, Li Jun Xian was a credit analyst at Goldman Sachs, where she was responsible for analyzing and monitoring the firm’s counterparty trading risk, and advising major public and private companies on capital structure decisions and their effects on credit ratings. She began her career in the art world as an intern at Robert Miller Gallery and Christie’s, and is currently Co-Chair of the Young Professionals Committee of the Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA) and Treasurer of POWArts. Li Jun Xian graduated with honors from Dartmouth College with a BS in Economics and Art History.
